7/17/2018 We harvested our first Japanese eggplant today. They grew big while we were away last week. I have to say something about Kale too! Since we started harvesting it we stopped buying salad leaves from grocery stores and eat “Kale salad” or soup or Kale something every single day. I am not kidding:) I have to keep coming up with new recipes and try not to get bored eating super healthy food though. Anyway, as you can see below, all of our organic vegetables are doing well so far.
2018年7月17日 本日の家庭菜園の様子です。先週1週間家を空けていた間にお茄子が立派に生長していました。最初の実は早めに取った方がよいらしいので、さっそく収穫。張りがあってピッチピチです。ケールは相変わらずグングン育っているので、冗談抜きで毎日サラダかスープにして食べています。そして嬉しいことにここ1ヶ月ほど全く市販のサラダ用レタスを買わなくなりました。カラダに良いし、お財布にも優しいので一石二鳥です。有機栽培なので虫や病気が心配ですが、今のところ他の野菜たちも皆順調に育っています。このまま順調に行きますように！
Japanese eggplant is smaller than US ones. I love those small ones. 採れたての日本茄子。
Japanese cucumbers. We’ve already ate one and more are coming. キュウリ1号はすでに収穫して浅漬けにして食べました。
Green pepper もう少し大きくなったら茄子とコラボしてと味噌炒めを作りたい。もしくは肉詰め！

Japanese green onion is getting thicker. 長ネギが太くなってきました。アメリカでは日本で売られている長ネギは見かけないので、自分で作っています。収穫したら作りたい料理は焼き鳥の「ネギ間」！
We covered eggplants with mesh net as we saw small bugs are eating leaves. 全体図。一番遠くのミニトマトは私より背が高く（<160cm）なっています。お茄子は虫がつきやすいのでメッシュのネットを被せています。

So this is our appetizer tonight. Grilled eggplant Japanese style. Bon appetit! 今夜の晩御飯の前菜です。せっかくなので素材そのものの味を楽しみたく、焼きなすにしました。お庭で育った長ネギもトッピング。鰹節は日本からの戦利品。日本ではいつでも食べられるお料理ですが、私たちにとってはとっても貴重な一品です。いただきまーす。
