Trip to Mid-Coast Maine メイン州

6/27/2019 We’ve been visiting Camden, Maine since mid June. Rich is taking a two week woodworking course at Center for Furniture Craftsmanship and making a piece of furniture there(I can’t tell “what” yet). Since it’s two weeks long, we decided to rent a small cottage via Airbnb and the house is quite comfortable. There is no school on the weekend, we decided to rent a tandem sea kayak and paddled around the harbor. And also, we visited Acadia National Park. It has been on my bucket list so I was very excited that we finally had a chance to go there. And yes, the park was truly beautiful.

There is another nice thing about this area, Lobsters and fresh seafood! We love seafood but can’t get “fresh” ones where we live. We’ve been taking advantage of being here and eating as much lobsters and seafood as possible. In fact, there is a lobster man near by where we are staying. We can get lobsters from him. Those are the best!

2019年6月27日　6月の中旬から2週間の予定でメイン州のカムデン（Camden）に来ています。家から約650km北東にある、大西洋に面した小さな海の町です。リッチ君が隣接する町にある木工技術学校の「2週間家具作りコース」に通っていて、ホテルでは料理も出来ず何かと不便なのでAirbnb（民泊）で探した小さな一軒家を借りることにしました。週末は学校がお休みなので、シーカヤックを借りて近くの島へ行ったり、少し足を延ばしアカディア国立公園へ行ったりしました。

メイン州の海沿いはなんとなく東北を連想させる場所で、海、山、緑、青空のコントラストがとてもキレイでまさに自然の宝庫です。さらに新鮮な魚介類、特にこの州の名産、伊勢海老も楽しめます。今滞在している家のご近所さんが伊勢海老漁師なので、彼から直接その日に獲れた伊勢海老を買うことができて大満足です。

It’s a long drive but worth doing!　長距離ですが、来る価値ありです。

We decided to rent a tandem sea kayak on Saturday.
土曜日の朝、良いお天気だったので、近くのアウトドアショップからタンデムのシーカヤックを借りることにしました。

We went to the island right in front of us, we didn’t know that is 5.5 miles away(one way)… It looks much closer but it wasn’t. The sea was clam when we started but on the way but the wind picked up, the water got choppy and started raining with thunder far distance. Oh my god, it was scary…
この目の前に見える”近くの”島を目指すことにしたのですが、実は片道9kmもありました。。。天気予報は快晴で島には問題なく辿りついたのですが、帰路は向かい風、三角波が立って、さらに雨が降ってきて、挙句の果てに遠くの方で雷がなっていました。ちょっとコワかったです。無事に帰ってこられて良かった。

続いて翌日、日曜日はアカディア国立公園にハイキングにいきました。崖を登るコースに挑戦中です。

こちらは、カムデンの隣町、ロックランドという町にある堤防です。小さくて見えませんが、最先端に灯台があります。

一日2回水揚げするそうです。

We got 1 1/2 pounders! The lobster man got them on the morning we picked up. It was clear that the taste, flavor were different from ones from grocery store. Much fresher and meaty!
大き目の一尾900gを選びました。その日の朝獲れたもので、スーパーで買うものとは明らかに鮮度も風味も違います。美味しい！

Anyway, we had a good time here. I will right about Rich’s woodworking project next time. We are leaving here tomorrow.
ということで、あっと言う間の2週間でした。リッチ君の木工細工のプロジェクトについてはまた後日書きたいと思います。明日、家に帰ります！
