2019 Gardening June

6/18/2019 Mid June gardening report. It’s been 4 months since I sowed the seeds. We transplanted seedlings early this year and especially leafy vegetables are doing well. They’ve grown fast and I wasn’t quite ready to do all the process needed to be done… And we reached the point again that we don’t have to buy greens from grocery stores. which is good! This year, I am growing Japanese daikon radish for the very first time. We’ve already harvested some and they taste so sweet! We are quite happy with that. One sad news is that we had some eggplant plants and their leaves have been eaten by small bugs. I tried organic Neem oil and cover with mesh etc but it came to the point that there is no way to save them. So I let them go… It’s disappointing but there is always next year to try again.

2019年6月18日 毎月思うことだけど、もう6月半ば。3月から月次でガーデニングの進捗を書いていますが、種まきから初めて今月は収穫の報告です。今年は4月の頭に植替えをしたので野菜の育ちが早く、すでにインフレ状態。私の心の準備ができていなくて、毎日庭のお世話、収穫、調理に追われています（汗）そして、今年もスーパーで葉野菜を全く買わなくてよくなりました！これはお財布に嬉しい。今年初の試みの大根も元気に育って、中ぶで甘いものができました。大根にまっすぐ育って欲しかったので、土の準備をするときに穴をかなり深く掘って堆肥と土を良く混ぜてフカフカの状態にしたつもりでしたが、やっぱり粘土層にぶつかってしまい、そこからは横にしか伸びることができず、、、ちょっとセクシーな大根になってしまいました。あと、茄子を育てていたのですが、小さな虫が沢山ついてしまい、有機殺虫剤（ニームオイル）などを使って色々試しましたが、虫の方が強く、泣く泣く諦めることにしました。今年も茄子の煮びたしを食べたかったのにー。残念です。

A basket full of leafy vegetables. you can get right this every other day.
籠いっぱいの葉野菜。一日おきにこの量が収穫できます。

今年のトマトは遅めです。

Mystery squash garden (Japanese Kabocha, giant pumpkin and possibly butternut squash from discarded seed in our compost)
カボチャ系ガーデン。日本のカボチャ、アメリカのハロウィーンで使われる巨大なカボチャ、そして堆肥に捨てた種から芽がでた謎のカボチャ（たぶん瓢箪カボチャだと思います）。実をつけるまで何が出てくるかわかりません（笑）

ゴボウ。植替えをしたときは葉が虫に食われてちゃんと育つか分からなかったけれど、持ち直しました。

We are in Camden, Maine on Penobscot Bay for two weeks. Rich is attending a two week furniture making course in a woodworking school here. It’s been hectic for past two weeks so I can relax a bit finally!

3日ほど前からメイン州のキャムデンという港町にきています。リッチ君がここで2週間、木工技術の学校に通い、家具づくりのコースを授業を受けています。毎日九時五時で、お弁当を持って通うマジなコースです。 コース終了時に作品を持って帰るので、出来上がったらまた報告したいと思います。
